In the game’s single-player mode, players assume the role of an American paratrooper in the US 82nd Airborne Division who is airdropped with his squadrons and fights against hostile forces across six large missions that take place during the latter half of the European theater of World War II, while in its online multiplayer mode, players can choose to fight as Allied soldiers that parachute into the battlefield, or as Axis soldiers who defend on the ground. It plays better and more realistically than Halo: Reach and lacks the pretense and stilted wannabe movie story line of Mafia II. Nomenclature aside, this new title is rock solid if you like first-person shooters. Or, you can pick up an AK-47 as a Taliban fighter, though that word has been scrubbed and replaced by the more anodyne "Opfor," an abbreviation of the term "opposing force" sometimes used by the jargon-speaking public affairs captains the military parades in front of the media to describe battlefield situations. In Medal of Honor, on shelves today, you can either play as an Allied (now called "Tier 1" or "Coalition") soldier. I don't know if this first-person shooter game is truly realistic, because I have never served, but it plays as realistically as any war game I've played. It's also bloody, chaotic and deadly - something that "Medal of Honor" from EA and developers Dice and Danger Close captures admirably. War is hell, and it's probably especially so in the rugged mountains and valleys of Afghanistan. One of the first words out of your Allied trooper's mouth in the game's opening sequence is the f-bomb and the rest of your Special Forces soldiers race around swearing like sailors.
